On July 2, 2014, on the initiative of Publisher, Raf Shakirov, and Nikolay Vardul, Chief Editor of the "Financial Gazette", the second meeting of the "Economic Club", an independent discussion group, gathered in Moscow. The theme of the discussion was the role of so called "megaprojects" in the development of the Russian economy. Taking part in the discussion were well-known financial experts, authoritative journalists, and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies. Greetings were sent by Arkady Dvorkovich, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Sergey Belyakov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
Speakers at the event included Ruslan Greenberg, Director, Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergey Vasiliev, Deputy Chairman of Vnesheconombank, Yuri Saakyan, Director General of the Institute of Natural Monopolies and Alexander Surinov, Head of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation amongst others.
Alexander Razuvaev, Director of Alpari's Analytical Department, talked about the dependence of geopolitics and economics in large governmental infrastructure projects in Russia.
The participants noted that within the sphere of developing transport infrastructure projects, Russia has a good chance to take a leading position on the world market. At the same time, the details of the projects need to be thoroughly worked out and possess an interdisciplinary character, in which there must be an organic composition of both regional and national interests.
