European car sales edge up

September 15, 2016

The previous month European car sales ascended 9.5%, as regional industry association ACEA informed on Thursday, with recovering southern markets bringing benefits to Fiat as well as low-cost brands.

In August, registrations ascended to 855,466 vehicles, a seasonally slow holiday month, from about 781,575 a year earlier. That’s what we’ve learned from the statement made by Brussels-based Association of European Carmakers.

Fiat Chrysler reported the biggest revenue among key carmakers with a 20% sales soar, helped by a similarly ascend in Italy and almost 15% growth in Spain.

Spanish-based budget brand SEAT recorded an 18% soar in EU registrations, thus contributing to parent group Volkswagen's 6.3% leap.

Aside from that, sales by French PSA edged up a lackluster 2.8%, with theВ PeugeotВ brand in line with VW, though Citroen along with DS demonstrating drops. Domestic counterpart RenaultВ earned nearly 15%, with its no-frills Dacia sales up 40%.
